Dorothy Ryckman, 88, formerly of Pollock, S.D.

Dorothy Ryckman Dorothy Ryckman Dorothy Phoebe Ryckman, 88, formerly of Pollock, S.D., died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in the Strasburg Care Center.

Dorothy was born on Aug. 28, 1924, in Linton, the daughter of Alfred J. and Rose (Clark) Becker. She was raised and educated in the Dale Community where she attended country school. She graduated from Pollock High School in 1941.

Dorothy married Elmer “Bud” W. Ryckman in Linton on Aug. 31, 1942. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm northwest of Pollock. Bud died on Jan. 15, 1982.

Dorothy moved into Pollock in 1983. Dorothy moved into Linton in 2007 where she resided in the Prairie RoseAssisted Living before entering the Strasburg Care Center.

She was a member of Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock American Legion Auxiliary and Bible Study Circle. She loved to bake and was known for her delicious pies, cookies and knoepfle soup.

She enjoyed reading, walking along the river, word search puzzles and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Elaine Ryckman, Pollock, Daniel and Sandy Ryckman, Hazelton and Pearl Ryckman, Mott; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carole and William Weikum, Monroe, Mich., and Rhonda Ryckman, Mason City, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Katherine Becker, Pollock, Myrtle Williams, Olympia, Wash., Evelyn Tennant, Sturgis, S.D., and Mildred and Russell Reierson, Rosebud, Mont. and a brother-in-law, Milbert Hehn, Mott.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer in 1982; a son, Albert; two brothers, Alfred and Albert; and a sister, Marjorie Ryckman.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Pollock Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pollock with the Rev. Floyd Haan officiating. Organist was Joan Wittmeier. Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Blessed Assurance.” Special music was by Jerome and Derry Pool “His Eye is on the Sparrow” and “The King is Coming.”

Casketbearers were grandsons Wade Weikum, Jerrod Weikum, Paul Ryckman, Kevin Ryckman, Mason Ryckman, Duane Ryckman and Darren Ryckman.

Honorary casketbearers were granddaughters, Sheri Sheets, Sue Taylor, Emily Anderson, Lacey Ryckman, Sheila VanderWal, Kimberly Falcon and Michelle Swinkey.

Burial was in the Dale Cemetery, Pollock.
